St John's, Whorlton

Welcome! St John's Church lies in the Anglican diocese of Newcastle and is the parish church for the community of Whorlton and Westerhope, which means we are here to serve God and every member of our local community: your church, here for you. The church, and its congregation, has been a centre of worship and of service to the local community since 1866. It is our spiritual home – and whether you're a long term local, or newly moved into the area we hope it might become yours, too. Whoever you are, and whatever your position or perspective, you'll find a welcome here.

You can find us near the junction of Stamfordham Road and North Walbottle Road (NE5 1NN). Don't let Google fool you - we're not the village near Barnard Castle (nor the church in town on Grainger Street)!

Safeguarding: Our parish of Whorlton: St John is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Newcastle has a Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advises our PSO and their safeguarding pages contain vital links and information. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO or the DSA. To see their contact details and much more click on the Safeguarding tab on the left-hand side of the screen. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the emergency services on 999 and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
